Cfwiterz is delighted to announce the call for submission for its May/June bi-annual magazine, and the theme is “Sweetness”. The theme was adapted from “Sweetness” a poetry collection by Nigerian Poet, Stefn Sylvester Anyatowu who is one of our Title of the Year Awardees.

The Freedom Magazine will award to our top entry the Collins Elesiro Literary Prize.

We are looking to give a home to stories birthed by emerging writers from the African continent.

Collins Elesiro Literary Prize

This year, the Freedom Magazine begins an exciting relationship with Collins Elesiro. Our mandate remains to tell the best of African Stories and promote the reading culture of Africans.

This year’s prize comes with N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) and e-publishing deal to the best entry. This contest is open to the three categories; Poetry, Fiction or Non-fiction.

Sima Essien’s “You Were Made For Better Things” emerged winner of the December 2018 Freedom Magazine Award.

We encourage freedom of style and expression, we only ask that you tell African stories as best as you can. Cfwriterz publishes writings from all over Africa and across various genres.

The judges for this May/June Magazine and Literary Prize will be unveiled on our website and in due course.

This year (2019), we introduce the Collins Elesiro Literary Prize worth a Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000). The prize goes to the best entry for the May/June Freedom Magazine. More about Collins Elesiro.

Guidelines for Submission

Entrants may submit up to 1 previously unpublished poem, and up to 3,000 words for fiction and non-fiction.

Simultaneous submissions are accepted. However, writers must notify us if their work is accepted elsewhere. Work in translation is welcome. We encourage writers to check our 2018 shortlist to understand the kind of writing we love.

Deadline for Submissions: 10th June, 2019.

The decisions of judges are final and cfwriterz retains the right to accept or reject entries. Unlike our previous magazines winners will no longer be selected by social media votes but by our judging panel.
