Itanile started as a literary magazine and online community, publishing fiction, nonfiction and poetry by African writers and the diaspora.
A team behind the writing
Authors worked with volunteer editors, designers and promoters, much as they would at a traditional publishing house.
Books, not only articles
Writers wanted to publish whole books, so we opened the site to authors who publish their own work for free.
A place to read them
We built Itanile Reader so African books can be read in a browser on any device, with authors paid for the pages that are read.
Run by volunteers, built for writers
Itanile is run by volunteer writers, editors, artists and creatives. Giving helps us keep the doors open to writers who have no other way in.
