Privacy policy
How Itanile collects, uses and protects your personal information on itanile.org.
Last updated: October 2026
Who we are
Itanile Hub Limited (“Itanile”, “we”), Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, runs itanile.org, the Itanile magazine and the author submission tools. We are the data controller for the personal information described here. Itanile Reader at reader.itanile.org has its own privacy policy. For anything in this policy, write to [email protected].
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and password when you create an author account.
- Author profile: the bio, author name and other details you add to your account.
- Submissions: the writing, books, cover images and descriptions you send us, and the details you give with them.
- Messages and forms: what you write to us through the contact form, the donation form or by email.
- Technical data: basic information your browser sends, such as IP address, device and pages visited, and cookies needed for the site to work.
How we use it
- To run your account and show your author profile and published work.
- To review, edit and publish your submissions, and to contact you about them.
- To reply to your messages and to process donations.
- To keep the site secure and working, and to understand how it is used.
- To send you emails you have asked for. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Legal basis
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) we rely on these grounds: contract (to run your account and handle your submissions), consent (for example, emails you sign up for, which you can withdraw at any time), legal obligation (for example, tax and accounting records) and legitimate interests (keeping the site secure and understanding how it is used). We do not make decisions about you using automated processing or profiling.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, such as hosting, email, payment and form providers, and with the authorities where the law requires it. Your author name, bio and published work are shown publicly on the site and in Itanile Reader.
Some of these providers are outside Nigeria, so your information may be transferred abroad. We use providers that are bound by data protection law or contract terms that give your information protection substantially similar to the NDPA.
Cookies
The site uses only the cookies it needs to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering form progress. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Page fonts may be loaded from Google Fonts, which means your device contacts Google when a page loads. You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may then stop working.
How long we keep it
We keep your account details, author profile and submissions while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal information, except records we must keep for tax, accounting or legal reasons, which we keep only as long as those rules require. Messages sent through the contact form are kept only as long as needed to deal with them.
Your rights
You have the right to: ask whether we process your information and for a copy of it in electronic form; have it corrected or deleted; withdraw your consent; object to our processing; and not be subject to decisions made only by automated means. Write to [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to the regulator in the country where you live.
Security, breaches and children
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, but no website is completely secure. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will tell the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours of becoming aware of it and will tell affected people without undue delay.
Children. Under the NDPA a child is anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please do not create an account or send us personal information unless a parent or legal guardian has agreed. If we learn we hold a child’s information without that consent, we will delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy and will post the new version here with its date.
