The Chameleon Verses of Coronavirus
In late 2019, the entire world was rudely awakened to a shock and disturbing news of a new disease outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Immediately, the 1981 novel by Dean Koontz, The Eyes of Darkness, surfaced with startling revelations about a similar disease outbreak christened Wuhan-400 which he had predicted would spread around the world in the year 2020. However, it was 34-year-old Dr Li Wenliang, an Ophthalmologist, who popularized the fatality of the outbreak when he made a post on Weibo on December 30th, warning his fellow medics that he had noticed seven cases of a virus he thought looked like Sars—the virus that led to a global epidemic in 2003. This move, which was intended to warn the unsuspecting world of the looming Armageddon, angered the Chinese government who felt the doctor was giving away classified information. Unsurprisingly, the whistle-blower was accused by the Police of “making false comments” and eventually died of the same disease he was trying to warn the world of, on 6th February 2020.
As could be expected, the disease, which is transmitted from person to person, began to spread across other continents of the world, impacting Europe the most. Current results around the world show that over 1,276,000 people have been infected with the coronavirus, while more than 69,500 deaths are recorded. Coronavirus, also known as Covid-19, is closely related to severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (Mers)—which have been occurring sporadically since it first emerged in 2012. However, Covid-19 is totally different from these two other coronaviruses in that its spectrum of disease is broad, with around 80 percent of cases leading to a mild infection.

Every day, one wakes up to media reports of new cases of coronavirus and rising death tolls around the world. A situation that has escalated panic levels amongst ordinary people. The disease kills with reckless abandon, showing no preference for race, gender or economic status. Although, according to experts, the fatality rate is more among under 15s, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. What is still not clear is the web of “conspiracy theories” encircling the mysterious, all-conquering coronavirus. A publication emerged early this year, written by a Chinese man who claimed to be a senior intelligence officer in the Chinese government. According to him, the coronavirus is a biological weapon, which was developed by the Chinese government to tackle the widely broadcasted protests in Hong Kong last year (2019). He further claimed that the CIA got wind of the substance and indicated interest to also use it for political reasons in Venezuela. Eventually, there was a disagreement between the two intelligence agencies which resulted in the exposure of the agent in Wuhan, close to the animal market. The rest, they say, is history.
Just when we thought we had known what the coronavirus really is, another man, who claimed to be a U.S pastor, released a video, warning people, especially Christians, not to take the vaccine, prepared as antidote to the coronavirus. He stated that “the virus is not in the symptoms but in the vaccine”. And that the vaccine would make anyone who took it positive with the virus. According to him, the powers behind the creation of the disease have sinister motives they want to achieve, unknown to the public. He alleged that top celebrities like Tom Hanks and his wife, Hudson Odoi, Mikel Arteta, Idris Elba, etc who claim to have been infected with the coronavirus, cannot die of the disease. The author of the video explained that these celebrities are only being used to advertise the virus as having the capacity to infect both the high and low so that ordinary people can willingly take the vaccine. “Do not take the vaccine!”, he warned.

As if that was not enough, another video emerged of another man who claimed to be a former staff of Vodafone. To him, the so-called coronavirus is a mere gimmick. The main cause of the global pandemic is the forceful introduction of the 5G network by the control freaks who want to introduce the much-vaunted New World Order (NWO). In the 35 minutes video, he gave details of the benefits of the 5G to its implementors as it would facilitate their cashless policy, efficient e-commerce, one-world government and the likes. On the flip side, he warned that the network emits radiation that is very toxic to human beings. He further stated that it is this toxicity that is responsible for the carnage that the world is currently grappling with. He went on to say that the death toll is higher in cities where the 5G is already in use. Citing Russia for instance, he claimed that the country’s 5G network is only for military purposes that is why there is zero or low fatality rate there.
Looking at all these perspectives, or conspiracy theories as some may prefer to have them, what is really coronavirus and why has it emerged at a time like this? Answers to these posers may not be straight forward. Because, focusing on the symptoms of the virus alone do not explain to us what it is. Neither are we going to make any sense out of its fatality rate, especially by focusing on what is been doled out from international media. How then, do we understand this pandemic?
It will be better to use the cause and effect principle. That is, assuming that nothing happens for nothing. There is always a reason for something to happen. Which means, the truth might be found if we can possibly sift through the “conspiracy theories”, taking note of similarities and stated facts which can be verified, and leaving out the emotions which may have resulted from a) loss of a child as in the case of the Chinese intelligence officer, b) the need to “prophecy” as in the case of the American pastor warning Christians, and c) the need to have an alternative economic system as advocated by the 5G proponent.
However, here is a speech delivered by Bill Gates on April 3, 2015, at a TED event. He announced to the world that “we are not ready for the next epidemic”, he said. “Today”, he continued, “the greatest threat of a global catastrophe is not nuclear war but epidemic. If anything will kill more than 10 million people in the next decade, it’s most likely to be an epidemic rather than war. Not missiles but microbes. The handling of Ebola for instance, was a global failure and failure to prepare could allow for another epidemic that will be more devastating than Ebola which killed 10,194 people in 428 days in three West African countries. Next time, we might have an airborne epidemic like the Spanish flu of 1918 which killed 33,365,533 people in just 263 days”, he stated, firmly.
Other global events that raise concerns are driving a lot of conversation about the virus and its timing. For instance, Jack Ma, Chairman of tech conglomerate, Alibaba Group and global ambassador for Chinese business, spearheading the distribution of protective gadgets to Africa, why? Why is Bill Gates leading the way in the production of the vaccine for coronavirus? Take his interview with Trevor Noah On The Daily Show, for example. Gates said, “Governments will eventually come up with lots of money for these things, but they don’t know where to direct it, they can’t move as quickly”. Therefore, “We did fund things to be more prepared, like a vaccine effort”, he stated. Meanwhile, on April 4, 2020, Africanews Channel reported that French Scientists were considering piloting the testing of the vaccines in Africa. Later in the day, notable African football icons, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o, posted on their social media handle, decrying the planned testing of the vaccines in Africa. They stated in strong terms that “Africa is not a testing ground and Africans should not be used as guinea pigs”.
Other conspiracies are concluding that this is indeed the New World Order! That we are in the global capitalist economy; the era of post-fordism; the era of post-modernism; the era of super-computers and 5G network! One thing is sure, the Corona virus has many faces.
